Collage #1 is a musical painting where sounds travel through the canvas creating a unique soundscape. It utilises recorded sounds to create a virtual scenario, a simulacrum of a forest auditory panorama. Eight sounds are located in different positions around the canvas: two frog sounds, two cicada sounds, three bird sounds and the sound of running water.
This artwork is part of a series of musical paintings that are currently being developed by Ian Costabile. These paintings are created by utilising speaker arrays behind the canvas. The result is an ample sound image, which can be experienced just standing in front of it, or moving around to explore it by different perspectives.
