The Insekta sculptures are composed of brass rods, custom PCBs and HD107s LEDs. They were designed by Ian Costabile to be performed alongside Scriabin’s Sonata n10 in a concert in March 2022. The concept was inspired by this sonata, which is known as the ‘Insect Sonata’. This was a project developed in collaboration with Professor Kenneth Smith and Taran Harris at the University of Liverpool for the Lunchtime Concert Series with support from the ICCaT. The sculptures are sound-reactive and can be controlled through Arduino (already mounted on the sculpture) or Max.
Currently, a new version is being designed. If you want to have one for your concert or buy one for your garden, please get in touch.
